As a public school in the state of Texas, our students are required to master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for each grade  as defined by the Texas State Board of Education.  For accountability purposes, our students in Grades 3-5 also participate annually in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

As an International Baccalaureate World School authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Programme for students in Grades K-5, all of our state-required content will be taught through a constructivist inquiry-based interdisciplinary approach considered to be best practice in educating elementary-age students.  This instructional approach is at the heart of the International Baccalaureate educational framework and the foundation for the development of critical thinking skills in students.

All students in Grades K-5 will receive instruction in the following areas:

  • Language A (English)

  • Language B (Spanish or Hebrew)

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

  • Arts

  • Physical, Social, and Personal Education

By exploring six transdisciplinary themes of global significance throughout the course of each school year, students are encouraged to make connections between the content in various subject areas and deepen their learning.  These six themes help teachers to develop a Programme of Inquiry, as teachers work together to develop investigations into important ideas that require a high degree of involvement from students.  The six transdisciplinary themes explored each year at every grade level are:

  1. Who We Are

  2. Where We Are in Place and Time

  3. How We Express Ourselves

  4. How The World Works

  5. How We Organize Ourselves

  6. Sharing The Planet
